The Linux Mint 14 Nadia distribution is available now with new versions of the Linux Mint packages such as the MATE desktop and Cinnamon. MATE has been updated to version 1.4 and Cinnamon is version 1.6. The updated MATE desktop has many enhancements that make this desktop even better as your default desktop choice. One good improvement concerns the MDM login manager; it can now read legacy GDM themes obtainable from gnome-look.org without any hacks to get the themes working. That is a definite improvement. If you want to upgrade from an existing version of Linux Mint to the new 14 release; then follow these steps: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2. But the easiest way to upgrade might be to backup your /home folder and then install a fresh copy of Linux Mint 14 and then restore your data. You will have to re-install all of the packages you had previously installed; but this is not too much trouble and you will have a fresh installation of the Linux Mint distribution.
