This sequence of commands will install the Linux Mint 13 MATE desktop on Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

[[email protected] Desktop]$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu quantal main"
[[email protected] Desktop]$ sudo apt-get update
[[email protected] Desktop]$ sudo apt-get install mate-archive-keyring
[[email protected] Desktop]$ sudo apt-get update
[[email protected] Desktop]$ sudo apt-get install mate-core
[[email protected] Desktop]$ sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment

This desktop as I have written before is an awesome replacement for the default Unity desktop and deserves to be your default desktop environment.

Read more here: http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/download. I wish that Canonical would include the MATE desktop as a downloadable distribution of Ubuntu. They could call it Mubuntu. How about it?
