The Linux Mint 12 Linux distribution has been released with the Gnome 3 Shell and a layer on top of the Gnome Shell to make it easier to use for those like me who have used Gnome since version 1.0 and are more desirous of a familiar interface and would not like the default Gnome 3 interface as was shipped with the Fedora Core 15 distribution. The Linux Mint 12 distribution also ships with support for the MATE Gnome 2 interface, this is also an option for those who do not want to use the Gnome Shell desktop. The layer on top of the Gnome Shell interface is called “MGSE” or the Mint Gnome Shell Extensions, this provides more usability for the Mint desktop and will ease the transition to the Gnome 3 desktop for potential users. This distribution is better than Ubuntu with Gnome 2 & Gnome 3 on the same distribution, it provides the best of both worlds for new and advanced users of Linux. No wonder Ubuntu is falling in ranking on Distrowatch, they do not care as much about their users as the Mint team do.
