Life in the Universe.

Just watching the Star Trek Next Generation episode where the Enterprise was doing a propulsion experiment and they were sent through space 2,700,000 light years to another galaxy. That is the best episode of Star Trek TNG I think, apart from the one where they free the gigantic pure energy jellyfish and it is entwining tentacles with it’s mate in space, what a emotional and cool moment. I would love to be able to travel that far and see what ever sights there are in the deep reaches of our universe. The universe is way larger than most of the human race can understand, the 13.7 billion year sphere we can see is the size of an atom compared to the size of the actual universe which is at the edges expanding faster than the speed of light. That means that we could never reach the planets there no matter how fast we travelled towards that region of space. There could be unimaginable creatures based on silicon instead of carbon and they could live on planets hotter than Venus with oceans of molten lead or zinc or floaters on gas giant planets that float about amongst the clouds of hydrogen and do all of their feeding and mating in the clouds and would have no knowledge of solid ground or oceans of water like we do.

Alien Timeship. 400 years old.
Alien Timeship.

But that is a possibility that lies out in the far reaches of the galaxy and I like to think that us humans could see what the universe has to offer before the inevitable heat death of the universe leaves it a cold and dark place with no perceptible warmth anywhere to be felt at all. I have updated to the latest WordPress and I restored my index.php from the backup after the successful installation overwrote the index.php I currently have in ~/public_html, but that does not matter, keeping your CMS up to date is critical unless you want to end up like the Hbgary website that was hacked by Anonymous, but there were many other failures along the way as well, including re-use of passwords and the HBGary guy’s general attitude that contributed to this whole incident. Security is paramount no matter how secure the OS.
