WordPress uses cookies, or tiny pieces of information stored on your computer, to verify who you are. There are cookies for logged in users and for commenters. These cookies expire two weeks after they are set.

The best way to generate a sitemap.xml file for your WordPress website is not to use services like that promise huge gains in SEO and do not deliver. It is best to do it yourself. Use a sitemap.xml file that is generated on your own website and lists all of your WordPress posts and pages.

I use the XML sitemaps plugin. This plugin automatically generates an xml sitemap in the root of your website directories. All the website owner needs to do is install the plugin and activate it. Then the sitemap will be generated. All that is left to do is edit the robots.txt to include the location of the sitemap as shown below. That is what I have configured and I will wait and see how this effects web traffic. But this has got to be better than using a third party service to manage my sitemap.

Disallow: /wp-content/plugins/
User-Agent: "*"

Give this a go on your website and free yourself from useless third party “SEO” snake oil salespeople.
