I have just upgraded my Ubuntu 8.10 kernel to 2.6.28.7 and now, the alsa sound works, which is way better than the deprecated OSS system that Ubuntu uses by default. And it was not very hard to do either, once I worked out how the mkinitramfs program worked, I was fine.

$ uname -a
Linux deusexmachina 2.6.28.7Bejiitas #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Feb 22 16:19:22 EST 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.28.7Bejiitas ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.3.2 (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu12) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Feb 22 16:19:22 EST 2009

You can tell I am happy can't you? I would love to see someone on Vista upgrading their Windows Kernel. But if only you could. But I only use Windows vista for Doom Builder and games.
