Ubuntu 13.04 released; this is the best version of the Ubuntu distribution yet.

The Ubuntu 13.04 distribution has been released. This will bring even more users to the Linux fold. I like Linux for the ease of use and the hardware support. this is a good reason for anyone to use Linux. The Ubuntu distribution has been around for a while. We had the awesome 8.10 distribution that used the Gnome 2 desktop and this was the standard until the 11.04 release that debuted the Unity interface. That was quite a change over the Gnome interface. Gnome Shell has a Gnome fallback mode that emulates the look and feel of Gnome 2; but the Linux Mint MATE desktop is the one that is maintaining the feel of Gnome. The Mateu distribution hopefully will be updated to the 13.04 release, this is a distribution that is bundling the MATE desktop together with the Ubuntu distribution to make a Linux experience that is more like Ubuntu 10.10. or you could install Linux Mint 14 MATE and enjoy a classic Linux desktop without the need for 3D effects and a touch oriented interface. That is what Linux is about; having a choice of which desktop environment you wish to install. Everyone can enjoy that I think.

The name “Raring Ringtail” is quite a good one; they should choose a cool Australian animal name for the 14.04 release; maybe “Furry Wallaby”. or “Dropping Dropbear”. That would be a hilarious name. But they have already named the 13.10 release “Saucy Salamander”, this implies Salamanders swimming upstream against the current of popular opinion and doing things their way. This is a good description of Canonical. But this should be a good released regardless. I hope that the next release of Ubuntu supplies more finely grained privacy controls to safeguard the users when they are searching for files on their own computer. That is very important.
