The 11.10 release of the Ubuntu Linux distribution has just hit the file servers. This release uses the 3.0.4 Linux kernel, gcc 4.6, Xorg 7.6 and the Gnome 3.2.0 desktop with the Unity 4.22 desktop interface. The Unity interface has been ported to the all new GTK 3.0 version with the possibility to create all new themes with the new CSS based GTK themes. The default E-Mail client is Mozilla Thunderbird 7.0 and the web browser for the Ubuntu distribution is Firefox 7.0, offering the newest stable version of this excellent browser. The ISO images available for download are Hybrid USB/ISO images allowing the same ISO to be burned to a CD or written to a USB stick, for faster installation and use without having to wait for the slower CD whilst loading the live environment. The Synaptic package manager is no longer included in the default installation of Ubuntu, but it can be installed by typing sudo apt-get install synaptic. But the new and improved Software Center would be a good compromise if you wanted to use that instead. Visit the link below for the download links, or go to the main Ubuntu website to get the proper CD ISO image for your machine. http://releases.ubuntu.com/11.10/.

Good Linuxing!
