This is a very good introduction to the fundamental workings of a Voice Over IP system. This video, posted on YouTube, shows the basic functionality of VOIP. Voice Over IP is a system that lets you send video messages and make telephone calls, using voice over IP communications. As these applications work through the Internet, the audio is converted into network packets using a certain networking protocol and then transmitted to another machine that will decode the packets and then converted back into audio. IP telephones use this system to allow LAN connected telephones on office desks to provide communication without requiring telephone cables.
